“There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved”- George Sand
14th of February…this one date…. every year…. every decade. A day where lovers are able to show more PDA than normal and it be socially acceptable. A day when flower shops are sold out and diamond rings float in the back pocket of many lovestruck men ready to shine gorgeous colours on their loved ones finger. It’s a day to remind your loved one how much they are loved and how adored they really are…
However, for a lot of us Valentines Day is just a day where the reminder of being lonely or not having the one we love close enough to shower in gifts and romantic dinners constantly prevails itself…. we walk through the day trying so hard to not be drowned by the love that is surrounding us. Truthfully this day is the day that we are smacked in the face with the truth about our feelings for someone whether we choose accept it or not. We are constantly engulfed by the day dream of their affection and how much you truly do admire them. This one day…. this silly date throws us into a whirl wind of emotions, lust, love and cravings. The desire for that one person! Someone who has come and gone or someone who you want to come your way. Those feelings have always been there… but they are just there right in front of your face on this day, just like any type of pain, it’s a feeling that is demanding to be felt!
This day is a day where we get to celebrate the ones we love. It is the opportunity to truly connect with those whom we adore and remember that this day is truly about love, sharing and giving. We are human because we love and love is the most beautiful thing in our lives. This day puts the materialistic things behind us and we focus on what’s in front of us, nothing else matters.
There is something that we can all take from this day, embrace it instead of hide from it. Put yourself and the loved ones around you first. I hope everyone had a wonderful day today and were all happy and enjoyed what it had to offer! For love is the only thing that gives us internal warmth so why not enjoy a day that promotes it?
Happy Valentines Day everyone!
